Need for ISM
In the current scenario, facilities to train the skilled manpower
required by the IT and ITES industries and to ensure quality
in the manpower has been inadequate. Also a number of new market
areas have been emerging with in the IT / ITES industry making
the issue more complex.
Government of Andhra Pradesh has conceptualized a vision for
the State that envisages use of Information Technology as a strategic
tool to achieving rapid economic development and to transform the
State into a knowledge society. IT enabled Services (ITES) is a
developing sector, which could drive the state towards this goal.
It could also help to resolve the problem of unemployment providing
jobs for millions of people.
The Government has been keen to help the youth of the State
to acquire skills and knowledge in this important fast growing
sector thus, improving their employability. The Government has
set up an Institute for ITES training (IIITEST) in February 2002
and started imparting short-term training programme for graduates.
This Programme has now stabilized after having conducted about
10 rounds of testing / training of trainees.
The Indian IT Industry is set for significant growth over the
next 5-years. To sustain this growth, the industry will need
large quantum of human resources. The present experiences of
stake holders suggest that getting quality talent in large numbers
for the ITES industry is an issue of both significant importance
and concern. |
